Q: Aren't automatic knives or swithblades illegal?

A: Yes and No. They are a restricted sale item!
  • Yes: Federal Law says that it is illegal for most Americans to own these items.
  • No: Federal Law says that those Americans that are in the US Military, Law Enforcement, or Emergency Personnel can own these items. It also states that those with only one (1) arm can also own an automatic knife with a blade less than 3 inches.

Q: Are assisted-opening knives illegal?

A: No!

Q: What is the difference between ASSISTED-OPENING knives and AUTOMATIC OPENING knives?

A: Assisted-opening knives require the user to manually start the opening of it's blade with their hand and then the spring mechanism takes over and completes the 180° opening of the knife. Automatic knives use gravity or an unlocking mechanism (such as a push button) to open them 180° and the hand is not required to touch the blade in order for the knife to fully open.

Q: What is the legal length of a blade that can be carried?

A: It varies with your state and local ordinances. Usually, a blade up to 3" long can be legally carried in your pocket, purse, or other "concealed" location. Any blade greater than 3" are usually required to be worn in a sheath or by other means on the external part of the body in an exposed or "non-concealed" manner.

  • Be careful of the state or local defining language in regards to blade length. Some interpret the length to be the total length of the metal blade whereas others use the length to be the length of the sharp edge of the blade. ALWAYS check with your state and local authorities to ensure that you are carrying your pocket knife or fixed knife in accordance with the law.

Q: What is a good blade?

A: The harder the blade the better the knife. A hardened blade will hold a better edge for a longer time. A harder RC (Rockwell Hardness) number the better (usually higher than 50).

Q: What is RC?

A: This stands for a Hardness scale that is used to test the hardened temper of a metal. The lower the number the softer the metal is and the faster that a knife will dull with use. The higher the number the longer it will hold a sharp edge. Remember, the harder a metal is the more brittle the metal will be, making it easier to break when used as a prying tool instead of as a knife.

Q: Does the color of the blade matter?

A: No. The color is merely for visual pleasure and does not affect the performance of the knife. However, there is a difference between color and blade material. For example, a Damascus blade is a different color than a normal hardened steel blade and their characteristics are different.

Q: Can Serrated or Combination edges be sharpened?

A: Yes. They can be sharpened by a professional knife sharpener (a person not a machine)or by the manufacturer. However, the cost involved is usually greater than the value of the knife. Serrations usually do not dull since only the points are subject to dulling forces and the points can (very carefully) be resharpened with a stone. I would recommend resharpening serrations only on a knife that is valuable to you (whether that is because of expense or personal reasons). The value of any particular knife is in the eye of the beholder.

Q: How long does it take to process my order?

A: It takes 3 business days for the credit card order to be approved. This is done by the credit card company to ensure that your credit card has not been stolen or being used fraudulently. This is for your protection. We are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause you. After the 3 business days, the order is immediately processed and is usually shipped out within 24 hours. We use USPS and UPS Ground only because of the nature of the product we are selling. The time for transport is usually 3-5 business days.
