SOG's Assisted Technology (S.A.T.™) “assisted-opening” knives are functionally different from automatic knives (switchblade type) that typically use gravity or a handle button/lever to release the blade from a closed position. Most of SOG's S.A.T.™ knives use opening springs that are high-tension coil springs that use multiple mechanisms that are under multiple patents. These springs work through the entire range of opening. This ensures reliability. S.A.T.™ allows SOG to use stronger and more reliable locking mechanisms. These are not automatic knives. However, users are responsible for investigating laws applicable to assisted-opening knives in their jurisdiction.
